Pashinyan on lost regions of Karabakh: Let us be honest to admit that 5+2 was never a realistic option - Armenian News

14:31 • 03.05.21 Nikol Pashinyan on Monday dismissed the political speculations over his government’s failure in the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) peace talks, reaffirming the repeatedly voiced thesis on the impossibility of the seven regions’ return based on the  ‘5+2’ formula. “Many years will pass, and the content of the negotiation documents will be exposed. And we will find out then that those negotiations underwent substantial changes in the autumn of 2015 and the winter of 2016,” the acting prime minister said at the National special session. The statement came in response to crossbencher Tigran Urikhanyan who addressed third President Serzh Sargsyan’s earlier remark accusing the current government of torpedoing the peace process.

Armenia - Azerbaijan conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh is far from over

The end of the most recent fighting in the disputed Caucasus region of Nagorno-Karabakh has brought about a fragile peace. However, with several key issues unresolved, hostilities may not be over just yet. During a break in trilateral talks at the Kremlin in January between Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia over the future of the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told reporters that, “unfortunately, the conflict is still not settled”. He is right. The formal status of Nagorno-Karabakh – an enclave of ethnic Armenians within what is Azerbaijan’s internationally-recognised territory, which has been pushing for self-determination since the late 1980s – remains up in the air, a crucial point of contention.
