CVCC Volleyball Finishes in Eighth Place at NJCAA Tournament

The Catawba Valley Community College volleyball team finished its appearance at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DII Championship on Thursday at the Alliant Energy Powerhouse Arena with an eighth-place national finish.
The sixth-seeded Red Hawks fell to host sixth-seeded Kirkwood in straight sets (15-25, 22-25, 19-25), finishing their season with a 21-5 overall record.

Set scores were 25-18, 25-22, 12-25 and 26-25.
With the win, CVCC improves to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in Region 10 play.
CVCC was without two of its leading hitters in the contest outside hitter Aasia McNeill and right side Saniya Harris. Despite those absences, Catawba Valley was able to extend its Region 10 unbeaten streak to 186 straight matches and conference unbeaten mark to 148 in a row.

Set scores were 25-13, 25-9 and 25-16.
Outside hitter Aasia McNeill led the Red Hawks (4-0, 2-0 in Region 10) with 13 kills, setter Amber Barker tallied 29 assists and libero Caitlin Dailey recorded 15 digs.
The Red Hawks won first six points of set one, cruising to a 1-0 lead in Friday’s Region 10 match. Outside hitter Carter Gibson and middle hitter Delaney Conner led the early surge for Catawba Valley with three kills apiece.
CVCC carried that momentum over in the second set. After being tied 1-1 early in set two, CVCC won eight of the next nine points to take a 9-2 lead on its way to a dominant set two win. McNeill recorded five of her kills during the set.
