awareness month, free screenings were offered today at san francisco s chinatown public health center. faculty from ucsf s dermatology department held the screenings which involve a visual examination of the skin. they noted any skin markings that looked suspect. people also received information on how to protect themselves from the sun. and dermatologists say early detection is key to diagnosing potential cases of melanoma. one in five americans has skin cancer at some point in their lives. this rate is actually increasing. so we would really like to raise awareness and help prevent the rate increase and diagnose any issues early. more than it 90% of skin cancer is caused by excessive exposure to the sun. skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer, and as she mentioned, one in five americans will get it in the course of their lifetime. and we re going to check in with rob about the sunshine. i am one of those one in five who s had skin cancer. and now i cover
