The cheetahs will be brought in a cargo flight from southern African country Namibia to Jaipur in Rajasthan and a helicopter will further bring them to Kuno-Palpur on September 17 morning, ahead of the PM s event.
The last cheetah died in the country in 1947 in Koriya district in present day Chhattisgarh, which was earlier part of Madhya Pradesh, and the species was declared extinct from India in 1952.
Cheetahs to arrive at Madhya Pradesh's Kuno Palpur National Park from South Africa's Namibia on September 17. It will be released into specially built enclosures by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the same day.
Five leopards had last month entered the special enclosure, spread over five square kilometres, for the acclimatisation of cheetahs. Two of them were chased away earlier and one was captured last week.
