It was very corny but a experience for me. I gave you the speech and you didnt say anything for a moment moment of any set i just want to push the envelope as far as i can on human rights and womens rights. [applause] i was so struck by that. This is the corny part. I was so glad to be in america and to have a first lady who is going to go into what was kind of the diplomatic minefield at that time and make this assertion. You went on to say after that that womens issues and womens rights are the Unfinished Business of the world. Im just wondering where do you think things stand now . Listen that speech which you worked so hard on an Madeline Albright was with us and she provided great feedback as we were going to the drafts, was so important to me personally because i thought the United States needed to leave on
I had a teacher i loved, and he took me aside and told me i needed to quit speaking up so much in class. The boys were not going to like me and itwood ladylike, and it impacted me. I was hurt she said this to me. Then, many years later in 2012, after my first debate with todd aiken, he told the press after the debate its wasnt very ladylike. So those two incidents reaffirmed in my mind that i have to communicate to other young women that its plenty ladylike to be outspoken ask strong and opennated and ambitious. Host i was struck as a consumer over the years of a number of politicians enemy mores, many of which are not nearly as frank and outsubpoenas your book is, which is outspoken as your book is, anding a member of the United States senate is an outlier. People are always blown away when i tell them that in the entire history of the United States senate, only 44 women have ever served from the entire beginning of time.
