Marshalls is closing its San Francisco discount store at 760 Market St., according to a state filing, adding to the downtown area’s retail woes.
While purchases of apparel are down, discounters have fared better than full-price stores, and Marshalls is profitable, suggesting that the San Francisco store faced particular challenges.
The store is expected to cease operations on Jan. 30, resulting in 84 layoffs unless employees choose to transfer to another store, Marshalls said in a letter to California’s Employment Development Department.
