DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Decatur Public Schools released a statement regarding the Macon-Piatt Special Education District Essential Skills program at Hope Academy moving to half days:
A lack of staff to meet the staff-to-student ratio in the Essential Skills program at Hope Academy has caused the program to be shortened to half days beginning Oct. 24.
The union representing more than 300 Decatur Public Schools teaching assistants has requested a federal mediator after Thursday talks yielded “little movement,” the union said.
Special education teachers are in short supply in the Macon-Piatt Special Education District and Executive Director Kathy Horath hopes to encourage high school students to consider a career in the
