The initial days of April saw the first recorded case of COVID-19 in the City of Cornwall.
This was followed by the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) opening several of its assessment centres Winchester’s on April 2, with the Cornwall assessment centre opened its doors the following day.

The strain from the pandemic was felt for the first time on April 7, as the EOHU medical officer of health advised the public his health unit only had about seven days’ worth of personal protective equipment (PPE). He did expect however to receive a much-needed resupply from the province a short while later which he did.
