Small business owners in Stratford are accustomed to slowing down after the holidays, but a looming provincewide lockdown is making Boxing Day feel less like a last-gasp sales opportunity and more like an incoming left hook from a veteran prize fighter.
“I heard so many people tell me, ‘I did all my shopping locally, I didn’t get anything out of town,’ and that is extremely encouraging,” said Kimberly Hurley, a local restaurateur who also co-owns The Little Green Grocery. “The thing that’s discouraging is just that we can only take so many blows. Restaurants, in particular, the profit margin is so tight, it’s hard to stay positive.”
