Picture: GW3 The roadmap includes recommendations under four key pillars to educate the region, particularly in digital skills, to ensure the Greater Whitsunday workforces remain adaptable, resilient, and employable into the future. The report looks at areas where skills might overlap, suggesting miners could help meet the future demand in the building industry. The Faethm platform has identified cross-industry employment pathways between a number of traditional sectors which project limited or uncertain workforce growth, and industries that have job corridor synergies and projected growth, providing opportunities to further explore cross-industry skilling pathways, the report reads.

Health care jobs are expected to grow the most over the next three years while the mining industry is predicted to add just 90 jobs by 2024.
The coronavirus pandemic, an ageing population and more home-based care are among the reasons the health sector will grow.
But the mining industry will remain the Mackay Isaac Whitsunday region’s biggest employer with more than 16,000 jobs.

Nominations are now open for a new tourism awards program which recognises Queenslandâs diverse and outstanding regional destinations.
The Top Tourism Town Awardsâ¯aim to recognise and rewardâ¯townsâ¯thatâ¯offerâ¯an amazing visitor experience, where tourism operators, businesses, and the local communityâ¯workâ¯together to make their town the best destination.
Theâ¯Queensland Tourism Industry Councilâs initiative will have two categories â Top Tourism Town Award â those with a population over 5000; and Small Tourism Town Award â those with a population below 5000.
QTIC chief executive Daniel Gschwind said the program was being introduced in each state and territory this year, in parallel with but separate from the Australian Tourism Awards series.
