Dy considers Kubanychbek the toughest fighter he will face so far

Published March 1, 2021, 7:53 PM Photo from BRAVE CF Filipino fighter Rolando Dy believes Kyrgyz star Abdysalam Kubanychbek might be the “toughest fighter” he will ever face. Dy is set to lock horns with Kubanychbek in the headliner of BRAVE CF 47: Asian Domination on March 11, the first main event for BRAVE Combat Federation’s “Kombat Kingdom,” which will serve as world title eliminator against current champion Amin Ayoub (15-4) of France. “He (Kubanychbek) is a top-rated fighter in his country and in Russia. If you have that kind of rating as a fighter, it means you’re a monster,” said Dy, who holds a 14-9 record. “I consider this fight as a very important fight.”

Whoever wins gets a crack at the belt against current titleholder Amin Ayoub (15-4) of France. Dy etched his name back in the MMA scene since scaling up from the featherweight division, beating the likes of Maciej Gierszweski of Poland and John Brewin of New Zealand in two-month span. Kubanychbek, for his part, rides on a 9-0 win streak since 2018 including three straight wins all via stoppage in the Bahrain-based promotion for an impressive 17-3 record. BRAVE CF 47 is the first of four events for “Kombat Kingdom” within the 21-day span. It will be a series of fight nights that culminates on April 1 in celebration of the promotion’s 50th edition at the National Stadium in Riffa City.

Dy ready to face lightweight contenders: Line them up and I will knock them down

Published February 11, 2021, 4:33 PM Filipino fighter Rolando Dy is more than ready to take on fellow challengers in the lightweight division who wish to get a crack at the belt. Dy, who inked a fresh three-year deal with BRAVE Combat Federation, has etched his name in the promotion’s lightweight picture last year after back-to-back stellar performances. Since a lackluster showing in the featherweight division in 2018, Dy redeemed himself in the lightweight rank after beating Maciej Gierszweski of Poland and John Brewin of New Zealand last year. “If BRAVE CF thinks I have to prove it again, then so be it. I am a fighter, and my job is to fight and win fights. Like I said in the past, line them up and I will keep knocking them down. It’s that simple,” said the 29-year-old Dy, who holds a 14-9 record.

Rolando Dy named BRAVE CF s Fighter of the Year

Dy came back stronger in the lightweight division after suffering two knockout defeats as a featherweight last year. The 29-year-old Dy beat Maciej Gierszweski of Poland in a hard-earned split decision win last September before defeating John Brewin of New Zealand with a unanimous decision victory more than a month later. Dy, a former UFC talent, said the September bout is proof to the doubters that he’s more than just a striker but rather a well-rounded mixed martial artist able to adapt to different fighting styles. As for the November clash, the Parañaque-based fighter accepted BRAVE’s offer to substitute for injured Sam Patterson against Brewin.
