Immediately the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) announced that Martha Koome was the nominee Chief Justice, her world changed from that of a Court of Appeal judge.
Her phone was busy, engaged with numerous calls such that reaching her took a while. She was yet to process that she had earned a title - Madam Chief Justice - a first for Kenya.

Mt. Kenya Mafia rigged me out of CJ job- Counsel Ngatia reveals
Speaking after the Judicial Service Commission (JSC)’s announcement on Tuesday, April 27, Ngatia lamented that he had been rigged out at the last minute.

Senior counsel Fred Ngatia on Tuesday, April 20, appeared before the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) where he was interviewed for the position of Kenya s Chief Justice.
As widely expected, the elephant in the room was the lawyer s relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta - having represented him in the 2013 and 2017 presidential petitions.
Ngatia sought to demystify the perception that he was close to State House, saying that the president had never influenced or interfered with any of his work.

A case filed by acting Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu seeking to bar Attorney General Kihara Kariuki and Law Society of Kenya (LSK) representative in the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Macharia Njeru from sitting in a committee to hear four petitions filed for her removal has been adjourned to May.
A three-judge bench allowed the adjournment after Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji made an application to have the presiding judge Said Chitembwe withdraw from the case, citing a scheduled interview for the position of the Chief Justice.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has constituted a five-member selection panel to begin assessing 13 applicants seeking to fill the position of Chief Justice.
The commission embarked on the process as people wondered why top lawyers, legal scholars and senior judges failed to apply for the top judicial job.
It was widely thought that the current Supreme Court judges would top the list of those seeking the CJ’s position, but none of the five judges applied including DCJ Philomena Mwilu who has been acting as the CJ since Justice David Maraga’s retirement in January.
