Deputy President William Ruto is set to unveil candidates in the forthcoming by-elections, setting the stage to face-off with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Allies of Dr Ruto said they would sponsor candidates in Nairobi, Machakos, Matungu and Kabuchai on the newly-formed United Democratic Alliance (UDA) or as independents.
This implies that the DP – who is also the Jubilee deputy party leader – will campaign against candidates of the ruling party in what is set to open a new battle front.

Politics is a complex game. So unpredictable is the game that today s archrivals could be the greatest allies tomorrow and vice versa.
However, despite this complexity, nobody really expected that Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju s former political party would fall right into the hands of people who have accused him of frustrating them, and could easily be used to run him out of town in the 2022 elections.
It has emerged that Party of Action (POA) started and built by Tuju is what changed its name to Party for Development and Reforms (PDR), then to United Democratic Alliance (UDA), which is now associated with Deputy President William Ruto.

It is not yet a done deal for Jubilee Party and ODM in the Nairobi governor race, as it emerged that parties still have a chance to field candidates.
The Saturday Standard has learnt that there is still a window for other political parties to give the direct nomination to candidates, a development that is likely to muddy the race and spoil the chances for the two dominant political outfits to fill the post unchallenged.
