Philippines cold storage facility to benefit Region 6 growers
Last week, the Department of Agriculture in Western Visayas inaugurated the P20-million (€340,000) cold storage project in the municipality of Miagao, Iloilo that will benefit onion growers in the region.
DA regional executive director Remelyn Recoter stated the facility will provide onion growers opportunities to develop the onion industry not only in Miagao and Iloilo province, but also in Region 6: The DA has granted many projects to Miagao onion growers such as the Production Loan Easy Access (PLEA) financial support for onion production. One of the significant projects provided is the onion cold storage, which is the first in the Visayas and Mindanao regions.”

At least 24 health workers have been infected by coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Iloilo province.
Foremost, there are 17 health workers infected at the Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Pototan town, the main hospital run by the Iloilo provincial government. A doctor doctor, 13 nurses, two nurse attendants, and one utility worker tested positive for COVID-19.
The management of the Iloilo Provincial Hospital also temporarily shutdown the services for surgery and orthopedic departments.
Another seven health workers working for the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Miag-ao town in southern Iloilo province also tested positive for COVID-19.
Miag-ao Mayor Macario Napulan told Manila Bulletin that the seven workers who tested positive for COVID-19 resulted into partial lockdown of the RHU for disinfection purposes.
