HONG KONG - A 72-year-old bottle of Glen Grant single malt whisky from Scotland is expected to fetch more than $38,000 in an auction in Hong Kong on Friday.

A 72-year-old bottle of Glen Grant single malt whisky from Scotland is to go under the hammer in Hong Kong on Friday.
It is the first time that the 1948 Glen Grant whisky, by independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail, is being offered in an auction.
It is number 88 of 290 decanters bottled by the company, and will be auctioned off by Bonhams with a book estimate of 300,000 to 380,000 Hong Kong dollars (£28,300 to £35,800).

Bonhams first Whisky Sale of 2021 will highlight Scotch whisky in Hong Kong, and takes place on January 29th.
A decanter of Glen Grant-1948 a 72-year-old by Gordon & MacPhail is a headliner this year. This rare spirit was bottled in 2020 and is making its debut at the auction this year. The bottle is numbered 88 out of the 290 bottles made 88 is a symbolic number in Chinese culture which means wealthy. The 72-year-old has 52.6% alcohol by volume. The estimated retail price of this decanter sits at HK$300,000-380,000.

In the course of a few dizzying hours at a Bonhams whisky auction in Hong Kong in May 2018, the world auction record for a bottle of whisky was broken not once but twice.
First, a bottle of the Macallan Peter Blake 1926-60 year old sold for £816,983; shortly afterwards, The Macallan Adami 1926-60 year old made £848,112.
