Arrest of DPWH exec in Leyte sought | The Manila Times

MAASIN City, Southern Leyte: The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Southern Leyte is seeking the arrest of a top official of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Southern Leyte Second District Engineering Office.The Sangguniang Panlalawigan, during its regular session presided over by Vice Gov. Rose Emilia Mercado on Monday, passed a resolution calling for the arrest of Engr. Eduardo Santos, district engineer of the DPWH Southern Leyte Second Engineering District.The resolution was filed by First District Board Member Teofisto Rojas Jr. after Santos ignored, for the sixth time, the invitation from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to appear before its session.He said the refusal of Santos to attend the sessions is a way of insulting their authority. 5 nabbed in Eastern Visayas drug stings

Operatives of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), together with personnel of Samar Police Provincial Police Office-Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) and Calbayog City Police Station, arrested a government worker named Arturo Aquino Hemplo, a high-value target (HVT), on February 22 in Calbayog City. Confiscated during the operation were four sachets containing substance believed to be shabu weighing 3.9012 grams, based on PDEA chemistry report. The drug items have an estimated market value of P26,528. In Maasin City, the PDEA, along with PDEU, Maasin City Police, and Southern Leyte Maritime Police, arrested an HVT identified as Jose Alvin Gaviola.

Ex-cop shot dead in brazen daytime attack

Published December 13, 2020, 11:33 AM TACLOBAN CITY – A retired cop was gunned down in broad daylight by three unidentified men on Saturday, December 12, in Barangay Dongon, Maasin City. Maasin City Police Chief Lt. Col. Mark Nalda identified the victim as retired SPO1 Dominico G. Petere, 48. Petere was formerly assigned at the Police Regional Office 8 in Palo, Leyte until he retired from the service.   Witnesses told the police that the victim was just doing house chores at their family compound when suspects in bonnets arrived, and shot the victim in different parts of the body. Petere died on-the-spot. The three suspects later boarded a white Asian utility vehicle (AUV) with no plates, and made good their escape.
