Stopped for speeding on Interstate I-180 in Loyalsock Township on Sept. 19, motorist Edward Hartz, 45, of 216 Lewis Road, was found to possess four bags of marijuana in his 1999 Chevrolet Malibu, a state trooper said in an affidavit. “There was an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, the trooper said. A blood test confirmed there was marijuana in Hartz’s system at the time. Charged with DUI of marijuana, possession of marijuana and speeding, he is free on $5,000 bail.
Maalek Smith, 33, of 1135 Meade St., has been charged with DUI and careless driving in the 2100 block of Poco Farm Road in Loyalsock Township about 11:45 p.m. on Sept. 17 after a state trooper stopped his 2000 Pontiac Montana, which crossed the fog line several times, according to court records. “There was a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage” coming from the driver, whose eyes were watery and bloodshot, the trooper said.
