Instead, police believe the crash was caused by operator error, combined with the unfamiliarity of the vehicle s operating system, but the cause of the accident is still under investigation. Earlier this year, the NHTSA found that accidents caused by a sudden acceleration in Teslas were caused by pedal misapplication. In other words, drivers mistaking the brake for the accelerator pedal is a common cause of accidents involving Teslas, and that could have been the case here. The vehicle did not act on its own and we have ruled out that cars named Christine, KITT, and Herbie were not involved, the Sudbury MA Police Department joked on social media. The driver should probably take a closer look at the owner s manual before they get back on the road.

BOSTON (AP) The Massachusetts motor vehicle inspection system is expected to remain down for another week, prompting state officials to give drivers with exprired March stickers a grace period to obtain an up-to-date sticker, officials said.
The Registry of Motor Vehicles announced late Friday that a malware attack March 30 on the vendor for the system, Applus Technologies, isn’t expected to be fixed until April 17.
“The RMV will hold the vendor accountable for this disruption and is working with Applus to restore services as soon as possible,” the registry said in a statement. “Applus has indicated that their systems will be operating by Saturday, April 17th in Massachusetts and the Registry will continue working with the vendor to meet this goal.”
