In what ways do you think the pandemic will shape the future governance of Bedford?
Fleischman: The pandemic has created challenges and opportunities regarding town governance. Overall, our democratic institutions have held up well: Town Meeting was successful; despite significant logistical hurdles and heat and health concerns, turn-out was robust. Although our Town Caucus was canceled, we have many contested municipal races. Public participation in remote meetings of boards and committees has increased. Our future governance model, constrained by state law, should to the greatest extent possible retain the elements of increased access and transparency that we have experienced during the pandemic and leverage technology to ensure that these gains are not lost once normalcy returns.
State to halt shipments of first COVID-19 vaccine doses to Western Massachusetts hospitals, lawmakers say

UPDATE: The largest hospital system in the state, Mass General Hospital Brigham - and more than a half dozen hospitals in Western Massachusetts - received word that they should stop scheduling first-dose vaccination appointments as shipments of the vaccine scheduled to be received by the hospitals will be diverted to the state’s vaccination clinics.
Massachusetts health officials intend to halt shipments of some COVID-19 vaccines to several hospitals in Western Massachusetts, diverting the supplies to super vaccination sites.
For a two-week period, Baystate Health, Cooley Dickinson Health Care and Mercy Medical Center will not receive their shipments of the first dose except for patients who have already scheduled appointments next week, according to lawmakers and the Massachusetts COVID-19 Command Center. At least 26 Harvard affiliates received positive Covid-19 test results between Jan. 25 and Feb. 5 â forcing at least some into isolation housing â that were later invalidated after the testing lab adjusted the threshold required to determine a positive result.
Two affected undergraduates told The Crimson that, after being moved into isolation rooms at the Harvard Square Hotel, they were initially refused additional testing despite suspecting that their tests were âfalse positives.â
Students living on campus self-administer three Covid-19 tests per week using kits designed by Color Genomics. The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard then processes the tests, allowing Color to notify students of their results, often within a day. If an undergraduate tests positive, they enter isolation and move to a University-designated location. Their close contacts must quarantine in their rooms at the direction of Harvard University Health Services.

Montgomery: Thousands of people showed up at sites from the coast to the Tennessee Valley as Alabama began vaccinating senior citizens against COVID-19. People spent the night in cars waiting for shots in Baldwin County, where health workers began immunizing people early Tuesday. County health workers in Huntsville vaccinated 500 people Monday, although only 300 people had appointments. Other sites opened in cities ranging in size from Birmingham to Rainsville.
