All traffic was stopped on the M60 after a multi-vehicle crash . Traffic was being held on the M60 clockwise near junction 18 for the M62, M66, and Simister Island in Bury. Congestion stretched back to junction 15 for the M61 and Swinton Interchange.
The accident happened in lanes two and three of three.
Traffic officers rushed to the scene after the crash at around 9.30am.

Police say that icy conditions have caused crashes which have closed both the M61 and M66 motorways southbound
Two motorways have been closed this morning after crashes in icy conditions.
The M61 southbound west of Bolton has been closed just before junction 5, while the southbound carriageway of the M66 near Bury has also been closed.
The M66 crash happened just as the A56 becomes the motorway. It s closed up to junction 2 and traffic is building back up the A56.
There are delays of up to 30 minutes behind the M61 incident - vehicles are being led around the closure at junction 5.
