The former Star-Gazette building, which has sat vacant for more than five years, has a new owner with a new vision for the sprawling facility.
Juvenal Reis, owner of New York City-based Reis Studios, purchased the 50,000-square-foot building from Gannett Co. Inc. at a November auction for $215,000, and closed the sale in late December.
The Star-Gazette moved its offices out of the building at 201 Baldwin St. in late 2015 and the edifice has sat idle since then. There has been considerable interest in the building, but also concerns about possible environmental issues.
Reis Studios provides studio and gallery space for New York City artists, and Reis wants to create the same sort of facility in Elmira.
