Richardson runs 22 11 200m in Florida, McLaughlin impresses in California | REPORT

US sprinter Sha Carri Richardson (© Getty Images) Just one week after clocking 10.72 for 100m, Sha Carri Richardson continued her fine form to run 22.11 (1.0m/s) in her 200m season debut at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational in Gainesville, Florida, on Friday (16). It is the 21-year-old’s second quickest ever time for the distance behind her PB of 22.00 set in Florida last August and saw the world U20 record-holder win the heat by almost half a second ahead of Lynna Irby with 22.57. World and Olympic medallist Blessing Okagbare was third in 22.66. The time clocked by Richardson – who moved to sixth on the world all-time list with her 100m run the week before – is the second fastest in the world at this early point of the season behind Shaunae Miller-Uibo’s 22.03 from earlier this month.

Bahamian elite athletes get on the track - The Nassau Guardian

Bahamian elite athletes get on the track Shaunae Miller-Uibo. FILE A number of Bahamian elite athletes were on the track on Sunday, taking part in the Pure Athletics Spring Invitational at the Orlando Health National Training Center (NTC) in Clermont, Florida. In the women’s 200 meters (m), Shaunae Miller-Uibo was as impressive as ever, opening up in 22.03 seconds. Legally, it was her fastest season opener ever. She ran a windy 21.90 seconds at the same meet in 2017. Sporting blonde hair, Pure Athletics athlete Miller-Uibo got out of the blocks quickly, straightened up and made up the stagger on American Fe Edwards who was a lane ahead of her. Miller-Uibo powered to the front and came home comfortably in 22.03. American Quanera Hayes, representing Life Speed Athletics out of Minneola, Florida, finished second in that heat, and was second overall, in 22.68 seconds. American Lynna Irby, from Pure Athletics, was third overall in 22.75 seconds.

Georgia s Irby Doubled Down, Set 400 MR ::: USTFCCCA

Celebrating A Century of NCAA Track & Field Championships Georgia’s Irby Doubled Down, Set 400 MR June 9, 2018 There were 14 instances of women scoring in both the 200 and 400 at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships between 1982 and 1989. That number dropped to five from 1990 to 2003 and then zero in the next 14 years. It’s safe to say Lynna Irby brought a throwback feel to the 2018 meet at Hayward Field. Irby, then a freshman at Georgia, set her sights on becoming the only woman in meet history to win both the 200 and 400. She entered the weekend with the fastest 200 in the nation at 22.25 – the 14th fastest performance in collegiate history – from her victory at the SEC Championships and sat fifth on the seasonal 400 chart at 50.95.
