PALM COAST Councilman Ed Danko wants the city to consider squashing litterbugs with as much as a $500 fine for a first-offense.
But not everyone, including Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly, thinks littering is that big a problem in Palm Coast. Staly s department handles law enforcement needs for the city.
Danko proposed the crackdown on littering during a meeting earlier this month. Danko said City Manager Matt Morton agreed with him that there has been an increase in unsightly refuse along the byways and highways of the city. Morton did not dispute that during the meeting.
Danko also said he had talked to Staly, who he said was on board with a crackdown on litterbugs.
