MANSFIELD — In a letter to the Norfolk County district attorney’s office last August, the U.S. attorney’s office in Boston said it had not determined whether charges would be filed
In the letters between the Norfolk District Attorney’s office and Department of Justice entities, the DA’s office sought to have the inquiry transferred out of Massachusetts but that request was denied.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for Massachusetts was still determining in August if charges were warranted in a federal investigation connected to the Karen Read murder case in Canton. That’s according to an August 3, 2023, letter the General Counsel for the Department of Justice sent to the Norfolk District Attorney’s office.
The Norfolk district attorney complained in May to the Justice Department about the “highly unusual and possibly abusive” move by federal prosecutors to conduct a review of the state murder case pending against Karen Read.
