Crowd size limits increased, Newton schools returning to buildings The Kansan Lynnette Redington, director of the Harvey County Health Department, had good news for the county commission Tuesday many of the county COVID-19 indicators were trending downward.  Today I am smiling just a little under the mask because we have better numbers than we have had, Redington said.  To date, 26,814 tests have been completed, on 13,133 individulals. There are currently five people in the hospital, a number Redington called stable. Currently there are 70 active cases in the county a number that Redington called fantastic after case loads in the hundreds for weeks.

The Kansan The week of Christmas the Harvey County Health Department identified 127 new cases of COVID-19, and as of Dec. 28 had 256 known, active cases in the county.  With 1,941 recoveries since the pandemic began and 146 Christmas week, the current case load is down 20 patients.  But there is still concern.  Newton Medical Center is reporting they are full. That does not mean all of those people are from Harvey County, said Lynette Redington, director of the Harvey County Health Department. They have staff that are getting tired, getting fatigued, as you can imagine with this daily grind. The more we can keep folks out of hospitals, great.

COVID-19 vaccine coming to Harvey County, though all doses earmarked The Kansan Health officials are expecting the first doses of a COVID-19 vaccine to arrive in Harvey County this week.  And all the doses coming are earmarked for medical workers and residents in long-term care facilities.  We should have some arriving in Harvey County this week,  Lynnette Redington, director of the Harvey County Health Department, told the Harvey County Commission on Tuesday.  They will not go to the health department. They will go to the hospital and Walgreens for their distribution. (The hospital and Walgreens) have already made arrangements with long-term care facilities. It is not for the public to go to the hospital or Walgreens asking for a vaccine at this time.
