SEBOKENG, South Africa, May 13 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - T hree months ago, Chippa Mohanoe s fiancée was stabbed in the neck and killed in front of their neighbours in South Africa s Sebokeng township.
Every day since, Mohanoe had to push past his fear of a repeat punishment for being trangender, hoping a high profile will stifle the homophobia that he says killed his fiancée and at least seven other LGBT+ South Africans in recent months.
Fear is making him brave. I am still here and I don t want to hide, I will make sure the justice system upholds her memory, Mohanoe said outside court after the man accused of her murder was denied bail.

LONDON (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Britain should change the law so all working parents who miscarry get paid leave, pressure groups said on Thursday, after a clutch of companies began offering their staff time off after a lost pregnancy.

Action groups said that policy was inhumane and urged a change in the law forcing companies to recognise the toll - emotional and physical - an earlier miscarriage can carry.

LONDON (Thomson Reuters Foundation) -A Croatian court has ruled that same-sex partners can now adopt children, backing a gay couple in their five-year fight for the right to family life, the government said on Thursday.
Zagreb’s Administrative Court ruled on April 21 that same-sex couples should not face discrimination in state adoption, the Rainbow Families Association (RFA), an LGBT+ group, said on its website, alongside a redacted copy of the judgment.
The head of the RFA, which funded the case, voiced excitement at this latest win for minority rights in the small Balkan state.
“I feel really relieved that this odyssey, that lasted so many years, has finally hit (its) conclusion,” Daniel Martinovic told the Thomson Reuters Foundation by phone.
