JERSEY needs to produce its roadmap for lifting Covid-19 restrictions and reopening its borders as soon as possible, as interest in visiting the Island is starting to surge, tourism leaders have said.

On Monday UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the key dates on which England aimed to ease restrictions for gatherings and travel, with Scotland following suit shortly afterwards.
Following Mr Johnson’s announcement, Condor Ferries confirmed that it had seen a ‘surge of interest’, with traffic on its website rising 46% and trips to the Channel Islands being of particular interest.

THE level of support for new employees provided by the government’s Co-funded Payroll Scheme is ‘unacceptable’, a small-business owner has said.

Close-contact businesses, including hair and beauty salons, are due to reopen today.
But Ana Gomes, who owns Splendida Hair and Beauty Salons and who helped set up the Support Jersey Family Business campaign, said that the support package, which allows firms to apply for a refund to offset staff wages, did not provide cover for employees who started work after the pandemic began.
