Holland s proposed zoning ordinance, better known by its acronym UDO, is currently under review. Council members studied the hot topics of density in Holland s residential neighborhoods and downtown parking for four hours Wednesday.
That was revisited Wednesday during a city council study session.
The backdrop to the discussion was the repeated petitions of a group of immigrant activists affiliated with Movimiento Cosecha who have been asking the council to sign a resolution in support of state legislation to allow undocumented immigrants to obtain driver s licenses.
Council has not taken any action on the group s request, citing a section of its internal rules which states, Council will not take positions on matters or requests that do not pertain to or are not within the operational jurisdiction of the City.
Council member Lyn Raymond, who is serving her first term on the council, asked to review the rule several weeks ago after the council was approached by the activists again.

HOLLAND The Michigan State Housing Development Authority has named members of a new council that will examine the most equitable and effective outcomes for the state s housing agenda.
Lyn Raymond, director of the Lakeshore Housing Alliance at Greater Ottawa County United Way, was named to the Michigan Statewide Housing Plan Partner Advisory Council. Raymond said the council, which features over 50 members from different housing-focused organizations across the state, will shape Michigan s five-year Statewide Housing Plan. We ve only actually met once, but one of the things that we worked on was talking about what a successful plan should include, including input from a variety of sectors and ensuring that we have input from people who would benefit from a housing plan, Raymond told The Sentinel. We talked about how the plan should really reflect the whole of Michigan.
