The chief officer for resources, Rhian Hayden, said that a two per cent reduction would lead to around £740,000 less income to the council. She said: “It would reduce the council tax surplus from £1.3 million to £600,000 and increase the funding gap in future years.” Cllr John Hill proposed that members “look at the possibility” of increasing council tax below four per cent and the potential consequences. Speaking after the meeting, Cllr Thomas said: “The majority Independent Group have shown their true colours today by voting against our proposal to reduce their four per cent to under two per cent as we recommended.
