MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill has strongly denied an allegation that he has used racist language to refer to some residents.
Merrill called the allegation âentirely false.â
The denial comes after AL.com reported Wednesday that Merrill admitted to having an extramarital affair after previously denying it.
He announced Wednesday that he will not seek any elected office in 2022, though he did not cite a specific reason for that decision.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Tuesday afternoon the Alabama Senate voted down the constitutional amendment to legalize gambling in Alabama.
The bill failed 19-13 in the Senate.
Governor Kay Ivey released a statement:
“Today’s vote by the Alabama Senate confirms more work must be done, because this issue is too important to not get it right. No doubt gambling is complex and challenging, but I remain committed to giving the people of Alabama the final say. I also believe the work of my Study Group last year can continue to be helpful in finding the right path as we move forward.
