Salisbury Women s Lacrosse captures their fourth National Title in program history with the 14-13 win over Tufts

May 23, 2021 SALEM, VA.- With the 14-13 win over Tufts, the Salisbury Lady Gulls captured their fourth DIII national title in program history. This is coach Jim Nestors 4th title in 19 seasons. It looked like it was going to be a run away, the Gulls jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first twelve minutes of the game. But, the Jumbos are in the national title game for a reason. They closed the half on a 6-2 run to tie us up at 6. In the second half, the Gulls Camryn Pepper netted an assisted goal from Lydia McNulty in the first 39 seconds of the half give the Gulls the 7-6 lead. Salisbury led the entire rest of the second half, leading by as many as four goals. In the final minute of play, with the Jumbos trailing by only one, Gulls keeper Mary Claire Hisle made the save of the game intercepting a pass across the front of the cage that looked to be the game tier. Mary Claire Hisle only had four saves, but the Salisbury goalie’s steal with 1:13 left allowed the Sea Gulls women’s lacrosse team to run out the clock and win the Division III national championship 14-13 over Tufts on Sunday at Kerr Stadium in Salem, Va. “I’m so happy,” Hisle said. “I’m so happy that we were able to get a win for our seniors because these guys have been amazing all season, motivating us and keeping us working toward our goal and we did that. We got our goal.”
