Luzerne County Judge Jennifer Rogers on Wednesday swore in nine citizens to become the latest volunteers for the Luzerne County Court Appointed Special Advocate program.
CASA members are community volunteers who serve as the voice of abused and neglected children in the Luzerne County court system.
The swearing-in ceremony was done virtually via a Zoom meeting due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
John Aciukewicz, executive director of the program, has said the pandemic has created health and employment concerns for many would-be volunteers.
Aciukewicz acknowledged the virus during Wednesdayâs meeting. The virus could be prevented by a soon-to-be release vaccine, but for many disadvantaged children there wonât be hope for the future without somelike like a CASA volunteer in their life, he said.
