San Diego Museum Month to mark its 32nd year in a virtual way As part of San Diego Museum Month, falconer Bob Gordon will present a pair of lectures with his Harris hawk Huxley for the San Diego Natural History Museum on Feb. 24 and 26. (Courtesy photo) Even though most San Diego County museums are closed due to the pandemic, the 32nd annual San Diego Museum Month will return today in an all-virtual format. Through Feb. 28, the San Diego Museum Council will be presenting “28 Days of Museum Moments” on its website and social media channels. This will include live performances and demonstrations, educational programs for schools, virtual art exhibitions and an online film festival. Museums with outdoor facilities and gardens that have remained open are also featured. Some events will be ticketed but many will be free.

Schwartz, Ph.D. (College of Criminology & Criminal Justice) was awarded the Early Career Award from the BioPsychoSocial Division of the American Society of Criminology. This prestigious award recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to scholarly knowledge on BioPsychoSocial criminology within six years of receiving their doctoral degree. James Du, Ph.D. and  Jason Pappas, Ph.D. (College of Education) and doctoral students Carter Floyd and Susmit Gulavani received the Atlantic Coast Conference Center for Research in Intercollegiate Athletics Award for their research project “A Tale of Two Cities: COVID-19 and Student-Athletes’ Psychological Well-Being.” The four will present their findings to ACC athletics administrators in 2021 during the conference’s fall meeting.

San Diego Women s Chorus hires new artistic and administrative staff

Lara Korneychuk and Meghan Grogan join the 33-year old organization s paid staff. The San Diego Women’s Chorus (SDWC) is pleased to announce the hire of two new staff to the organization’s artistic and administrative team. Lara Korneychuk joins the artistic team as the new Assistant to the Artistic Director with nearly a decade of experience and Meghan Grogan is the first hire in the newly created position of Assistant to the Board of Directors. After over four years, Celeste Oram is stepping down from SDWC’s Assistant to the Artistic Director position to complete her PhD in Music Composition at UCSD. After a nationwide search, the chorus has selected Lara Korneychuk to fill the role. Korneychuk will support Kathleen Hansen, the Artistic Director of the organization since 2014, in leading chorus rehearsals, supporting musicianship, and producing performances. Korneychuk has held a similar role as Assistant Conductor for SACRA/PROFANA in San Diego since 2017.
