Despite the backlash after the announcement of his appointment as Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) chief executive, Anele Qaba is determined to regain ground on what he called the agency’s five lost years.
Almost R600 million in grant funding has been withheld from the Nelson Mandela Bay metro by the National Treasury and the city is at risk of losing a further R388 million that is due before the end of July.
With plans to erect fences, put up 600 cameras and increase patrols, the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality has committed to securing memorial sites across the metro to curb wanton vandalism and theft.
