Summit Daily News hires Matt Hutcheson as assistant editor

The Summit Daily News has hired Matt Hutcheson, a former news editor in Arkansas, as its assistant editor.  Hutcheson comes from southern Arkansas where he worked for the El Dorado News-Times, a daily newspaper, beginning.

Tri county coverage receives APA honors

Each year, the Alabama Press Association (APA) conducts contests to judge editorial, advertising, and magazine content submitted by Alabama publications. This year, Greenville Newspapers, Inc., which publishes The Greenville Advocate, The Lowndes Signal, and The Luverne Journal entered multiple categories for each publication and received awards for many entries related to community news in the tri county coverage area.

Storm surge leaves roads blocked, thousands without power

A storm system raged through central and south Alabama late Wednesday afternoon leaving thousands, 79,727 statewide, without power statewide by 7 p.m. Downed trees blocked countless roadways during the early evening.
