Luntu Sokutu, a director in the office of the premier and an ANC Youth League member, appeared in the East London magistrate’s court on Friday on a charge of assaulting a young woman.
An Eastern Cape government official and politician’s bid to dodge a criminal case has failed, and the National Prosecuting Authority has decided to prosecute Luntu Sokutu on charges of assault. Sokutu is a director in the office of premier Oscar Mabuyane, as well as the provincial leader of the ANC Youth League structure.
The assault case against a senior staffer in the Eastern Cape office of the premier is heading to court in January as the prosecuting authority believes it has reasonable prospects of winning the case.
