Sweden prosecutes two former oil company officials for war crimes in Sudan

Prosecutors say the company, then named Lundin Oil, asked Khartoum to secure a potential oil field in what is now South Sudan. "This has made executives complicit in war crimes subsequently committed by the Sudanese military and allied armed groups against civilians," the indictment says. On July 2011, South Sudan formally seceded from Sudan, ending a series of wars between the Muslim-majority north and the predominantly pagan and animist south as well as Christianity and Islam. The company has changed its name several times since then and sold most of its business in 2022.
