Back in the day you had Jack Powles, Herbert Woods, Martham s - they were the kings of the hire fleets, and they developed some amazing build techniques because they had to build boats fast and cheap to get them out and bringing in the money. Their techniques are unique to Norfolk. I used to take historic boats apart on the river Thames, and I could tell they were built in Norfolk.

When Luke Paterson took on his family s farm five years ago, he could not have predicted the economic shocks which were to follow.
But despite Brexit, harvest disasters and a worldwide pandemic, the business has thrived - thanks to a diversification strategy which has equipped it with new incomes and the resilience to ride out the storms of an ever-changing industry.
Mr Paterson is the fourth generation of his family to farm at Dilham Hall, near North Walsham.
He bought his brother Joe out of the business in 2016 - a move which itself was only possible due to the security of income from his brokerage firm Paterson Ag, which recently celebrated its tenth anniversary.

Luke Paterson has finished his three new glamping pods which resemble from the outside, the Middle Earth home of the character from Tolkien s The Hobbit.

However, Mr Paterson says the interiors of his Broad Fen Retreats, available for couples only and no pets, are much more luxurious.

Luke Paterson, 32, of Wheeler Way, Malmesbury. pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle over the specified drug limit at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court on Friday. As well as being disqualified, he was fined £80 and ordered to pay costs. On the evening of July 22, last year, officers had reason to stop a blue Honda Jazz on Longleaze. Officers had reason to believe that Paterson was under the influence of drugs and administered a road-side test which returned a positive reading for cannabis.
