It was reported last Friday that New Orleans Saints star wide receiver Michael Thomas would miss the start of the upcoming regular season after he underwent ankle surgery in June to repair an issue that bothered him throughout the 2020 campaign, and a later story said the two-time All-Pro could begin Week 1 in September on the physically unable to perform list and, thus, be out through the season s first six weeks.
Understandably, some fans and observers wondered why Thomas didn t have the procedure done earlier in the winter or spring. Saints general manager Mickey Loomis attempted to clear the air on the subject when speaking with reporters Wednesday:

NEW ORLEANS (WLFI) Former Purdue defensive tackle Lorenzo Neal singed to the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent Thursday night.
His father, Lorenzo Neal Sr., played for the Saints from 1993-1996 as a fullback.
The younger Neal played in 38 games during his four active seasons at Purdue. He missed the 2019 season with an ACL Injury, but came back for the 2020 campaign.
Neal tallied 73 total tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and four forced fumbles during his time with the Boilers.
