Show Transcript YEARS SINCE WE HAVE SEEN A SIGNIFICANT FIRE IN THE EAST MOUNTAINS. THE LAST ONE, THE DOG HAD FIRE BURNED ALMOST 18,000 ACRES. FIREFIGHTERS HERE AT THE BERNALILLO COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT ARE WARNING THAT ANOTHER FIRE LIKE THAT CAN HAPPEN ANYTIME. FIRES IN OUR STATE CAN HAPPEN IN AN INSTANT. WE TALKED ABOUT HAVING THAT HUNDRED YEAR FIRE. EVERY FIRE THAT COMES OUT HAS THE POTENTIAL, ESPECIALLY IN THE EASE MOUNTAIN AREA, TO GROW LARGER. THE BERNALILLO COUNTY DEPARTMENT PREPARES FOR FIRES ALL YEAR LONG. SOME OF THEIR TRAINING INCLUDES GETTING A HANDLE FOR STRUCTURE FIRES AND WILDLAND FIRES. SANTA FE Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on Wednesday issued the following statement after President Joe Biden issued his first address to a Joint Session of Congress:
“President Biden’s American Families Plan prioritizes all the right things for both our country and our state: investing in our children, our families, and our economic future – the very same things we are doing right here in New Mexico. In fact, we are encouraged that the President is prioritizing universal pre-school, free community college, and paid sick leave, just as we are in New Mexico.

Gov. Lujan Grisham to head to D.C. for White House meeting
SANTA FE – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham will fly Thursday to Washington, D.C., at the invitation of President Joe Biden to take part in a bipartisan meeting of governors and mayors at the White House scheduled for Friday.
The meeting is focused on the president’s COVID-19 relief package, the American Rescue Plan. The governor plans to advocate for the proposed $350 billion in essential state and local aid and for continued increases in vaccine supply to support New Mexico’sleading efforts in efficiently distributing shots.
The governor is scheduled to return to New Mexico late Friday.
