Robeisy Ramirez is undefeated since his debut loss to Adan Gonzales, one he would go on to avenge in August of last year. Juan Tapia’s most notable fight to date came against Shakur Stevenson in an eight-round shutout back in 2018. Stevenson of course would like his own shot at revenge against Robeisy Ramirez, who defeated him for the gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics. This fight gives us a chance to see how both boxers stack up against a common opponent, although that rematch won’t happen anytime soon. Stevenson’s already won a belt and seeking more at 130, while Ramirez is still developing as a prospect and looks like he’ll be settling in at 126 for the foreseeable future.

The return of former lightweight champion Richard Commey was a big boom. Commey s blistering right hook nearly knocked Jackson Marinez through the ropes as Commey secured a sixth-round knockout victory Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Commey (30-3, 27 KOs) stalked Marinez (19-2, 7 KOs) in the early rounds, using his strength to bully Marinez around the ring, while Marinez tried to keep Commey away by flashing superior boxing skills. But the 33-year-old Commey was a man on a mission, fighting for his country of Ghana in his first bout in 14 months.

Albuquerque boxer Jason Sanchez, shown in 2019, has a pivotal fight upcoming Saturday. (Roberto E. Rosales/Journal file)
The competition, Albuquerque’s Jason Sanchez knew, would get tougher after he signed with major boxing promoter Top Rank, Inc., two years ago.
Yet, when Sanchez steps into a Las Vegas, Nevada, boxing ring on Saturday, he won’t only be competing against Adam Lopez.
He’ll be competing against the version of himself that lost his last fight.

In June, Sanchez faced Puerto Rico’s Christopher Diaz in Las Vegas. A victory that day might have been a springboard to world contender status in the featherweight division – even toward a second world title shot; Sanchez had lost by unanimous decision to then-champion Oscar Valdez a year before.
