The Danish contingent of the NATO Enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) Battlegroup have completed two six-month rotations at Tapa base. Danish personnel are now scheduled to return to Estonia in 2022.
At a farewell ceremony at Tapa base, east of Tallinn, Friday morning, commander of the contingent, Lt Col. Thomas Fogh, thanked his Estonian and U.K. colleagues.
Lt Col. Fogh said via a NATO press release that: Our cooperation with the British-lead Battlegroup and the Estonian Defense Forces (EDF) 1st Brigade has been exemplary.
The British Army s 5th Battalion, the Rifles (5 Rifles), an armored infantry battalion, forms the core of the battlegroup at present, and Lt Col. Fogh also handed over responsibilities which had been handled by Danish personnel to 5 Rifles commanding officer, Lt Col. Jim Hadfield.

Minister of Defense Jüri Luik (Isamaa) says that isolating defense from political currents is one of the trump cards of national security in Estonia. The minister also says that the threat of NATO disbanding has disappeared and that the new year will mark the rise of China.
We can call this an end of the year interview if we think about the Year of the Rat. The latter will end on February 11 by which time the global arena will have witnessed events we know are coming but that haven’t happened yet. Estonian residents trust Minister of Social Affairs Tanel Kiik (Center) most of any politician, followed by MEP Marina Kaljurand (SDE) and President Kersti Kaljulaid, a survey conducted by pollster Kantar Emor shows.
According to the politician trust survey, Kiik is trusted by 49 percent of all Estonian residents with 61 percent of Estonians saying they trust the social minister. Kiik s trust is highest among those aged 65 and up.
Kantar Emor leading expert Aivar Voog said: Kiik as social minister is a politician who has gotten extensive media coverage. Despite his young age, his balanced and calming style fits well into the current crisis situation and has reached the top of the politician trust survey.
The United States will issue $168.7 million of security assistance to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in 2021 through the newly created Baltic Security Initiative, which highlights the security concerns of the Baltic region in U.S. lawmaking. The decision by the U.S. Congress demonstrates that our strongest ally is committed to the defense of our region and understands the security challenges here. We highly value this decision and are ready to continue strengthening our defense cooperation with the U.S., Estonian Defense Minister Jüri Luik (Isamaa) said. This is the first time the assistance has been issued through the Baltic Security Initiative.
