LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - The Lufkin Police Department has released the name of the bicyclist who was hit by a vehicle on Loop 287â²s Moffett Road overpass early Saturday morning.
The victim was James Parrott, a 53-year-old homeless man from Lufkin, according to a post on the Lufkin Police departmentâs Facebook page.
âWe initially believed Parrott was the victim of a hit-and-run accident, but upon further investigation, it appears he suffered a bicycle accident or medical issue that caused him to collapse in the road,â the Facebook post stated. âUpon collapsing, he suffered a head injury.â

LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - A Boy Scout has donated numerous sleeping bags for Lufkin Police officers to hand out to homeless people and others in need.
“SHOUT OUT: A HUGE THANKS to this amazing young man, Case Shockley of Boy Scouts of America Troop 136, for donating these sleeping bags for our officers to hand out to the homeless and others in need during this extreme cold weather event,” a post on the Lufkin Police Department’s Facebook page stated.
