For Drivers, Ticket Amnesty Programs Can Ease Financial Burden

D.C. to offer amnesty for overdue tickets, as ticketing for all parking violations resumes

D.C. to offer amnesty for overdue tickets, as ticketing for all parking violations resumes Luz Lazo © Linda Davidson/The Washington Post Multiple parking tickets are seen on H Street in Washington in this 2015 file photo. (Linda Davidson/The Washington Post) In a step toward pre-pandemic normalcy, the District is set to resume full enforcement of parking violations this spring. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D) said Monday that as of June 1 the city will end its year-long reprieve from ticketing for parking infractions such as expired meters and overstayed parking in residential zones. Bowser also announced an amnesty deal for drivers who have outstanding tickets. From June 1 to Sept. 30, all overdue parking, photo-enforcement and moving violations can be paid without penalty, Bowser said. That means drivers with overdue tickets will essentially pay half, because fines double after 30 days.
