What to know: The Tour of Turkey returns to the cycling calendar after it was forced to cancel last year’s event due to COVID-19 restrictions. Largely geared towards the fast men in the peloton, there are only a few chances for the overall contenders to make a difference.
Brand triumphs in women s elite race at UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships Saturday, 30 January 2021
Lucinda Brand claimed her maiden International Cycling Union (UCI) Cyclo-cross World Championship title as she led an all-Dutch women s elite podium in Ostend.
Brand came into the competition as the form rider after winning the overall UCI World Cup title, following three victories and two second placed finishes.
Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado of The Netherlands and Belgium’s Sanne Cant, the winners of the past two editions of the event, saw their challenge fade early after suffering crashes.
Denise Betsema set the pace on the first of five 2.9 kilometres laps, but was unable to shake the challenge of Annemarie Worst and Brand.

Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert will aim to secure a fourth International Cycling Union (UCI) Cyclo-cross World Championship title at Ostend in Belgium.
The Dutch star van der Poel has triumphed in the men’s race in the past two years, adding to his maiden world title in 2015.
Wout van Aert will hope to wrestle back the world title from his rival, with the Belgian having triumphed in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
Van Aert will come into a home World Championships fresh from having earned the overall World Cup title, having matched van der Poel in earning two wins and two second place finishes during the season.

Van Aert clinches UCI Cyclo-Cross World Cup title with win in Overijse Sunday, 24 January 2021
Wout Van Aert clinched the men s International Cycling Union (UCI) Cyclo-Cross World Cup title after triumphing in Overijse.
The Belgian had enough of an advantage in the World Cup standings to only need a second-place finish to win the overall title.
He went one step further and topped the podium, crossing the line in 1 hour 05min 57sec.
The three-time world champion now has three World Cup titles to his name.
Van Aert s nearest opponent in the standings was Dutch rival Mathieu van der Poel, who suffered a puncture and crash in today s race but still managed to finish second in 1:07:00.
