Leading Musicians Announce the Launch of the Black Orchestral Network (BON) and the Dear American Orchestras Campaign

Today, Black members of more than forty orchestras announced the Black Orchestral Network (BON). BON is a collective of Black orchestral musicians dedicated to creating an inclusive and equitable environment for Black people in the orchestral field. The group was built on the motto, “if we increase our connection to one another, we can harness our creativity and develop initiatives  that benefit Black musicians.”

By Heather Dunhill 4/13/2021 at 2:42pm Jamal Sarikoki Born and raised in Chicago, Jamal Sarikoki found his way to classical music at the age of 4 when his mother, Bessie, enrolled him in a music program at Sherwood Conservatory. Since then, he’s mastered the violin, viola and organ—and he’s also a minister, conductor, and an operatic and oratorio singer, known for his vocal agility and legato line.
