ILOILO CITY A newly-built facility intended to temporarily house those who have coronavirus disease (COVID-19) or those who are suspected to have the virus has been opened in the island province of Guimaras.

This was after the Western Visayas regional office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-6) turned over the facility to the Provincial Government of Guimaras located at the Capitol complex in Jordan, the capital town of Guimaras.
“We really need this facility to help stop local transmission of COVID-19 in Guimaras. We can only do this if we isolate immediately the positive cases. This will also ease the burden of the provincial government in fighting COVID-19,” said Gov. Samuel Gumarin during the February 25 turnover ceremony.

A team led by Bing Juaneza distributed assistance from Senator Go to 651 individuals in the said towns who have been affected by the phaseout of wooden pumpboats plying Guimaras and Iloilo to give way to the modernization of ferry services in the province.
Beneficiaries received meals, food packs, vitamins and hygiene kits during the separate activities held at Jordan Municipal Gym and Buenavista Public Market on the same day. Thirty of them also took home computer tablets and thirty more, mountain bikes.
