According to the Lucia Mar Unified School District (LMUSD), Peter Ponomaroff resigned from his job effective Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021. Starting Tuesday, school district officials say Brett Gimlin, LMUSD Curriculum Director, will assume temporary leadership of the school while the district looks for a new principal. When asked, district officials would not disclose a reason for Ponomaroff s sudden resignation. In a statement sent to KSBY News Monday afternoon, the district said, We thank Mr. Ponomaroff for his many years of service to the District.

According to updated guidelines released by the California Department of Public Health in mid-January, elementary schools are allowed to reopen in counties where COVID-19 case rates are below 25 cases per 100,000 residents. Youngest students return to in-person learning at Lucia Mar Unified schools KSBY and last updated 2021-02-24 21:50:43-05 Another school district in San Luis Obispo County is back to in-person learning. Transitional kindergarten and kindergarteners with Lucia Mar Unified are back in the classroom. This impacts 11 elementary schools within the district. Wednesday, Feb. 24, was the first time since March 13, 2020, that nearly 30 students were able to sit behind a desk at Oceano Elementary School. I like school because I like to learn and have fun, said Valeria, a student. A big sign and balloons welcomed the kids. Some have never been on campus before.
