LEAL, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Bison of Barnes County North jumped out to an early 8-0 lead to start the contest, but the Cardinals had a big second quarter outscoring the Bison 25-9 to take the lead 33-21 at the break. The Cardinals controlled the second half and picked up their second District 5 win. The Cardinals had two players in double figures, Hudson Schmitz had 17 and Lucas Hendrickson added 16. Max Fehr led the way for the Bison with 13 points. Carrington improves to 2-1 in D5 and 6-8 overall, BCN drops to 0-3 in D5 and 3-8 overall.

Carrington, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) -The Carrington Cardinals held off a fourth quarter comeback attempt by the visiting Mayville-Portland-Clifford-Galesburg (MPCG) Patriots for a 54-50 victory. Carrington scored the first basket of the fourth quarter and held a 12 point lead at 39-27. The Patriots went on a 13-3 run and cut the lead to just 2 points at 42-40 with 3:50 to play. The Cardinals outscored the Patriots 12-10 down the stretch for the victory.
Carrington had 4 players score in double figures led by Hudson Topp (5’11 sophomore) with a game high 15 points. Lucas Hendrickson (6′ junior) 13 points, Grady Shipman (5’9 freshman) 11 points, and Hudson Schmitz (6′ sophomore) 10 points aided the Cardinal win.
Jamestown, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The boy’s Stutsman County Tournament started Thursday at the Jamestown Civic Center with four games of action. Friday and Saturday will include four games as well, starting at 2 pm each day with games following every two hours. Results from the first day:
Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier Rebels 62 – South Border Mustangs 26
The EKM Rebels finished the first quarter with a 23-0 lead and did not look back as they cruised to a 36 point win over the South Border Mustangs in the first game of the tournament. Seniors Alex Huber and Chayse Entzi led the Rebels with 24 and 17 points, respectively, and Entzi added 12 rebounds, including 6 on the offensive end.
CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Carrington Cardinals boys basketball team hosted the Knights of Dakota Prairie on Tuesday night for Class B Boys non-region action. In a back and forth contest, the Knights hold on for the victory 53-51 and improve to 2-2 overall, Carrington drops to 1-2 overall.
The Cardinals led 20-10 at the end of the first quarter, but Dakota Prairie had a big second quarter outscoring the Cardinals 23-9 to take the lead 33-29 at the break. With the score tied at 49 towards the end of the fourth quarter, Garrett Haakenson hit a 3-pointer to put DP up 52-49 and they would keep the lead. The Cardinals had a chance to tie at 53 with under :14 seconds left, but a big block by Garrett Syverson prevented it. DP was led by two players in double figures, Juniors Garrett Syverson and Cade Stein dropped in 16 points each and Haakenson added nine, three 3-pointers, as a team they hit seven three’s. NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Rockets of New Rockford/Sheyenne jumped out to an early 9-0 lead and kept the lead the rest of the contest as they go on to defeat the Cardinals of Carrington 52-23 in the season opener for both teams in Class B Boys basketball.
The Rockets held the Cardinals to just 13 first half points, leading 24-13 at the break. NR/S outscored Carrington 20-4 in the third quarter, including 11 points from Evan Ulrich. The 6’7″ Senior Forward Ulrich had a game high 19 points for the Rockets, 6’4″ Junior Guard Nick Berglund added 11. Carrington was led by 6′ Junior Guard Lucas Hendrickson with 11.
