Suspect 15 years for role in 2012 shooting death A 27-year-old man on Friday was sentenced to 15 years in prison after admitting to his role in a deadly 2012 Central Lubbock robbery. Lester Lee Patterson III pleaded guilty in the 137th District Court to a count of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury in connection with the killing of Travondrick LaShawn Ward, who was shot to death July 7, 2012, in the 1900 block of 66th Street. Patterson, who entered his plea by video from the Lubbock County Detention Center, where he has been held since 2018, was initially indicted on a charge of murder. However, as part of a plea bargain with the Lubbock District Attorney s Office, that case was dismissed.
